CURRENT EVENTS

GUINEA PIGS AS CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

CCI has been contacted to "sell" guinea pigs as gifts to individuals by individuals wishing to give a guinea pig as a Christmas gift. Cavy Care Inc. will not do this.
All persons wanting a guinea pig will have to apply for a guinea pig and that guinea pig must be for that individual or that immediate family.

November 9th, 2008
The Arrival
Muriel brings in the first of the new arrivals
Garrison helps with even more piggies!
And they keep coming!
Now it's time to sort all 55 out, sex them, check them for health.

Arriving on the afternoon of October 9th, unloading 55 guinea pigs we began to check them in. Informed they had, had very little water on their 9 plus hour journey we started to feed them produce heavy in water.
By the time every one was checked in there was 9 pregnant females, a LOT of white guinea pigs several red, black and black and white. They are from a home of more then 150 guinea pigs. There are 95 remaining. They where well cared for. It is easy to see how the former owner became so easily overwhelmed by the increasing numbers.

How it started......

Help bring these guinea pigs to hopeful  home!

Guinea Pig Update 11/05/08
The weather has turned a but nasty in Nebraska so we are waiting to hear if our guinea pigs will be making the track out this weekend. I would like to send a special thanks to all those who who have wanted to welcome these Nebraska transplants to the wilds and wonderfully caring Colorado.  We are sorry we can not take any children under 14 as volunteers at this time but welcome the skills of those 14 and older.
Because of space restraints of the van being used to bring the guinea pigs out in ~we will only be receiving 40 cages of guinea pigs which may or may not equate to 60 to 75 guinea pigs. We will be able to house these little fellows. The next 75 will be brought out at a later date as weather permits. These are guinea pigs that left the former owner over whelmed and thus we are acting to provide aid.

October 25,2008 CALLING ALL GUINEA PIG LOVERS!!!
Earlier this week we reported that we had been contacted in regards to 150 guinea pig in Nebraska in need of re-housing.  After going back and forth regarding our ability to take on these guinea pigs ~a decision was arrived at. We will be taking on these guinea pigs in three batches of approximately 50 guinea pigs each time.
Since there is no other rescue organization in Nebraska or surrounding area we are going to step up and do what we do best to make that difference.
You can make a difference too!.
  • November 8th, our first newcomers will be arriving.
  • We are calling on the guinea pig public to  step up to the plate in what ever manner they can. We will need additional cages (Large my first homes),
  • Bedding, Pelleted food, they are presently eating Mazuri for guinea pigs. We will need veggies/fruits, trash bags, and floor cleaner.
  • If you can help the date of their arrival with checking them in, photographing them and numbering it would be appreciated.
This will be one of the largest undertaking Cavy Care Inc. has done in some time. And while we at one time had over 325 guinea pigs it was during times when my health was better.
  • Cleaning will also be needed if you have the time to help.
  • Feeding
  • Interacting
  • Health check
  • Writing recommendations based on interaction.
  • Volunteering at adoption events
This is a real opportunity to make a difference for animals that are truly in need of human help.

November 05th, 2008 Update on the Golden Guinea pigs.
We are happy to say they have all settled in nicely . Some need some work and are a bit skittish. Three of the pregnant moms have given birth and we have four wonderful little babies.
If on a Sunday you would like to work with those that need to be tamed down a bit, please call. You must be at least 14 years of age to participate.

Carol Doan, Volunteer T
The date is October 15, 2008 Cavy Care Inc. when in and was able to take in 25 guinea pigs from a women who found breeding was not what she had hoped it would be.
While having a beautiful lot of baby guinea pigs, I have to admit they where as cute as the last 4800 guinea pig we have placed. Unfortunately they were 25 more to add to my nightly worry of providing proper care and placement.

Time to get them sorted out......Lets see who's who......  these are just a few of the 25...
