Cavy Care Inc Foster Care Program
Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster parent volunteer for Cavy Care Inc. Cavy Care Inc.
saves more than 400 animals each year with your help through Foster we hope to boost that number through the
foster care program.
Foster parents provide temporary care for guinea pigs, boars, sows and pups in the greater Denver Metro area homes.
Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for up to three months.
By offering your time, energy and home to an animal in need, you prepare the animal for adoption into a permanent
home as well as help prevent overcrowding in our shelter. Cavy Care Inc. is always looking for more foster homes,
especially throughout the year.
Most common reason animals require foster care:
- Pups who are too young to be adopted out into permanent homes. When the pups are four weeks old and are of proper weight can than be placed out for adoption.
- Sows who are nursing a litter of pups and can not be separated until the pups are four weeks.
- Guinea pigs who are failing to thrive in a shelter environment.
- Feral guinea pigs in need of TLC to show them that they should not be afraid of people.
- Guinea pigs who suffer injuries or illness.
Cavy Care Inc provides: all veterinary care and medicine for foster animals, plus plenty of support to foster parent
volunteers. Some equipment may be available.
Foster parent volunteers provide: time, pet supplies as maybe needed and TLC. Foster care parents maybe required to
supply equipment.
How foster care works
- When Cavy Care Inc. receives animals who are not ready to be put up for adoption, we contact foster parent
volunteers. If a foster volunteer is not available to foster at that time, we will simply try another person.
There will be plenty of other opportunities to foster, so there is no pressure to take an animal.
- Foster parents come to our shelter located in Aurora Colorado to pick up the foster animals to take home.
All that time, volunteers receive information about the animals condition and needs.
- Foster parents may need to bring the animal to Cavy Care Inc. periodically to be examined by our veterinarians,
receive medication or other treatment.
- Once the foster period is over, the foster volunteer returns to animals to Cavy Care Inc.
- Cavy Care Inc.'s medical team will complete final steps necessary to prepare the animal for adoption.
